Ask AI
Ask AI goes further than search. It finds the most relevant document chunks, sends them to an AI model along with your question, and generates a natural-language answer with source references.
How it works
- Retrieval — Your question goes through the hybrid search pipeline to find the top 5 most relevant document chunks
- Context assembly — Retrieved chunks are formatted as context for the AI model
- Generation — The AI model (configurable in Settings) generates an answer grounded in the retrieved context
- Source attribution — Each answer includes links to the source documents used, with relevance scores
The AI is instructed to answer only based on the provided documents. If the answer isn’t in your lore, it will say so rather than hallucinate.
Choosing your model
In Settings, you can choose which AI model powers Ask AI. The available models are configured by your admin. Changing models doesn’t affect past answers — only future requests use the new model.
Tips for better answers
- Check the sources — Click through to source documents to see the full context
- Ask specific questions — “What’s the deployment process for the payment service?” beats “how to deploy”
- Rephrase if needed — If the first answer isn’t great, try rephrasing. Different wording can surface different document chunks
Scoping
Like search, Ask AI can be scoped to:
- All active libraries (default)
- A specific library — Only use documents from one library
- A system — Only use documents from libraries within a system
Ask AI uses your weekly credit allowance based on your plan. Search is always free and unlimited.
